Imphal, October 07 2014:
Ningombam Awang Leikai and Ningombam Atom Leikai residents have raised their voice against the Government's eviction order which asked all the affected families to quit their homesteads by October 6 .
Speaking to reporters during a press conference held at Ningombam community hall today, residents of both the localities said that they had complied with the Governments' terms and conditions regarding the exapansion of Imphal Airport.
The Government had in return assured necessary compensation along with the promise to establish a new colony/a model village at Heibok Ching Macha for the affected families.
However, on the contrary, the State Government had on September 28, ordered their eviction before October 6.Incensed by the State Government's order, the residents said they would not quit their homesteads until the State Government provides them with the assured compensation and land allotment.
One of the women present in the conference said that at present there are about 20 families who are yet to acquire their allotted land.
Moreover, the assured compensation for horticultural damage has not been sanctioned yet.
The site selected for the model village is also in need of improvement in various aspects.
The residents had also lodged a complaint concerning the matter to the MLA but no positive response came, she added.
Frustrated with the response she appealed to authorities concerned to look into the matter at the earliest.
The residents resolutely stated that they would not quit the area until they are provided with the assured compensations and land allotment.
