Imphal, January 22 2015:
Shija Hospital and Research Institute has successfully treated a 48 year old lady with 'symptomless breast cancer', a press statement issued by its business development assistant manager informed.
The woman, a teacher and a mother of two, was first examined by Dr Ajit Lukram, Shija Breast and Thyroid Clinic consultant in January this year.
She was diagnosed with an invasive ductal cancer after biopsy.
The lady reported neither pain nor was she aware of any form of swelling when she walked into the Hospital for a routine check-up.
Doctors explained her condition as 'impalpable lesions' (swellings which cannot be felt) in medical terminology which can be diagnosed only through screening, the statement informed.
The woman subsequently underwent a curative surgical treatment at Shija Hospital, it said.
This is one of the first cases in the region where impalpable cancer is diagnosed and treated.
The case highlights the importance of a routine screening for breast cancer in the State.
