Imphal, January 22 2015:
Accusing the Agriculture Minister of scheming to deprive the senior most tribal officer of the Agriculture Dept from occupying the post of Director of the department, the Zeliangrong Students' Union, Manipur (ZSUM) and All Inpui Students' Union Manipur (AISUM) have warned that they would intense forms of agitation if Louis Ngasainao is not considered for the post of the next Director of Agriculture Dept.
Speaking to media persons today at the office of ATSUM located at Nagaram, Shangruh Gangmei, State secretary, ZSUM said that the senior most officer, a tribal, in the Agriculture Dept has been deliberately deprived of occupying the post of Director in the department which is against the interest of the tribal.
The incumbent Director of the department retires on Jan 31.Louis Ngasainao is the senior most officer after the incumbent Director, he pointed out.
However, the Agriculture Minister has slept over the files for three months after the completion of formal procedure conducted on the officer by the Vigilance Dept, and High Powered Committee, Gangmei alleged.
He further said that the Minister was deliberately sleeping over the files even after the Principal Secretary (Agriculture) put up the matter for obtaining approval of the higher authority for closing the case in Oct 2014.This was to jeopardise the chance of the officer to occupy the highest post of the department, he alleged.
Speaking at the press meet, Victor Bariam, general secretary, AISUM said that the move of the Minister in this regard was exploitative, manipulative and discriminatory against the tribal.
The two student bodies would launch intense form of agitation unless Louis Ngasainao is made the Director of the department at the earliest.
