Fine art exhibition sets into motion

Imphal, January 22 2015:
The six-day regional exhibition of paintings and sculptures focusing on the cultural heritage of the State organised by Lalit Kala Akademi, Regional Centre, Kolkata in association with Manipur State Kala Akademi and Manipur University was set into motion today at Manipur State Kala Akademi complex, Khuman Lampak.
The regional exhibition of art works has been organised under the theme, 'Sense and Essence' .
The exhibition showcases the art work of numerous local artistes who took part in various workshops held last year under the aegis of Manipur State Kala Akademi and Manipur University.

Dr RK Nimai, Consultant to GoM attended the inauguration function as the chief guest while Prof HNK Sarma, Vice-Chancellor, MU was the functional president.
K Radhakumar, Secretary (Art and Culture), GoM was the guest of honour.
Showcasing the various sculptures and painting of various artists the art exhibition is expected to draw numerous art lovers of the State.
Speaking at the inaugural function, RK Nimai said that sculpture was there in ancient Manipur.
But the art of painting is new to Manipur.
Even though Manipur started painting only over a century ago, the artists have done tremendous works, made good strides and they deserve applause.
Further he said that quality based art work should be promoted by the Government and help the artists to bring out more artistic and creative pieces.
He added that the State Government should use the products of the artists in beautifying various Government offices and buildings.
Even though Manipur has excelled in performing arts, people now need to know the aspects and essence of fine arts and architectural form of arts like that of sculptures.
RK Nimai said that people in our State should know the aesthetic quality of fine-arts and paintings, only then our artists would be able produce highly valued art works.
This will also pave the way for fine-arts to flourish.
He further said that the Government along with the public should patronise art works and growth in arts would be there in our State.
Functional president Prof HNK Sarma said that Manipur is developing slowly in the field of paintings and sculptures.
Patronising art works is needed in order to tread the path of growth in these fields.
A funding agency from any section of the society is needed to ensure faster growth and development of art in the State, he added.
Guest of honour Radhakumar said that the artists should strive for quality based masterpiece and not quantity based art works.
