Imphal, October 28 2008:
With private tuitions for almost all subjects becoming a popular practice, students are unable to take part in social activities and their social life, apart from schools, have been severely curtailed, noted Education Minister L Jayantakumar.
Jayantakumar was speaking as chief guest at the prize distribution function of the 9th State Level Mathematics ad Science Competition organised by the United Development Association, Khangabok.
Along with the students, parents are also busy in taking their children to and from tuition centres and private teachers everyday.
Apart from staying away from social activities as they do not have time to spare from their tight schedule of private tuitions, students do not have time to think freely according to their conscience, observed the Minister.
Conveying that current practice may not be healthy in the long run, he strongly advocated that social life should constitute a part of a young student's life for his/her healthy physical and mental growth.
The prize distribution function was also attended by Manipur Human Rights Commission member RK Rajendra as functional president and BSEM Secretary L Rajmohan as guest of honour.
