World Alzheimer's Day celebrated

As observed across the globe, World Alzheimer's Day was celebrated today at the Conference Hall of JNIMS, Porompat.
The event organised by the Psychiatry Department of JNIMS was attended by JNIMS Director, Dr Laishram Deben; JNIMS, Psychiatry Department.
Head, Dr Koijam Shantibala; retired Session Judge, Aribam Noutuneshwari; JNIMS Medical Superintendent, Khumukcham Lokseshwor and Health Department, retired Additional Director, Dr S Manikanta as presidium members.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr L Deben stressed on the need to spread awareness on Alzheimer's disease and urged all to take proper care of senior citizens/ elders with love & respect.

Pointing out that as per a research report, about 8.8 million Indians older than 60 years live with dementia, he said, "Alzheimer's is a type of dementia that affects memory, thinking and behavior.
The disease most commonly affects older adults" .
Dr Koijam Shantibala highlighted the need to do away with the stigma and misconceptions associated with Alzheimer's disease.
She shared that although it's still unknown what triggers Alzheimer's disease, several factors are known to increase the risk of developing the condition such as genetics, lifestyle and environment.
Moreover, Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Imphal today observed World Alzheimer's Day with the theme, "Never Too Early, Never Too Late" at OPD Block, Department of Psychiatry, RIMS, Imphal.
The programme was attended by Dr S Gojendra Singh, Head, Department of Psychiatry; Dr RK Lenin Singh, Professor, Department of Psychiatry; Dr Mona Nongmeikapam, Asst.
Professor, Department of Psychiatry; faculty members, staff and students, said RIMS in a release.
At the event, Dr S Gojendra Singh and Dr RK Lenin highlighted the objective of creating awareness about the misconception of dementia & Alzheimer's.
