RIMS observes World Alzheimer's Day

Regional Institute of Medical Sciences, Imphal (RIMS) observed "World Alzheimer's Day" under the theme "Never Too Early, Never Too Late" at the Institute's OPD Block, Department of Psychiatry, here, on Thursday.
Speaking on the occasion, Department of Psychiatry HoD Dr S Gojendra Singh and professor Dr RK Lenin emphasised on the need to create awareness regarding misconception surrounding dementia and Alzheimer and to encourage and support the families of Alzheimer-affected patients to tackle and fight it.
The experts also pointed out that Alzheimer is a severe brain disorder of memory loss and confusion while also cautioning that if not diagnosed and managed on time, can adversely impact one's mental abilities of learning, thinking, reasoning, remembering, problem-solving, decision-making, and attention, which could compromise one's day-to-day life activities and control over emotions.
This serious ailment impacts not only the patients but also their families and friends, the experts cautioned.
The programme was also attended Department of Psychiatry assistant professor Dr Mona Nongmeikapam, faculty members, staffers, students and patient parties.
