Bid to storm police stations foiled as court arrest stir begins

Persisting with their demand for unconditional release of five village volunteers arrested by Manipur Police on September 16, Meira paibi activists stormed various police stations in Bishnupur and Thoubal districts on Thursday as part of their mass court arrest stir.
Large number of meira paibi activists showed up at Nambol, Bishnupur, Moirang, Keibul and Kumbi police stations from around 1 pm demanding release of the arrested village volunteers without any condition or arresting them.
At Nambol, the women protestors were stopped from entering the police station by a team led jointly by Nambol police station OC A Nabakanta Sharma, SDPO Bishnupur M Digbijoy, women police and SSB personnel.
Speaking to media persons on the sidelines of the protest, United Protection Committee, Nambol assistant secretary L Sumila Devi questioned why the government is enforcing law in the valley areas and not in the hills.
Meanwhile, a combined team of security forces led by SP Bishnupur K Meghachandra including women police and SSB personnel blocked Meira Paibis from entering into Bishnupur police station.
Speaking to media persons, Apunba Nupi Lup, Bishnupur president L Pramo Devi warned of another 'Nupi Lal' if the prevailing situation continues in the state.
On the other hand, one meira paibi activist Ch Meipaktombi cautioned that if the arrested village volunteers were not released by Friday then the people of Bishnupur and its surrounding areas will storm DC Bishnupur and SP Bishnupur offices.
Similarly, meira paibi activists tried to force their way into Yairipok police station as part of the mass court arrest protest demanding release of five arrested village volunteers.
Leading the protest, All Yairipok Apunba Ima Lup general secretary Matouleibi Maibam condemned the biased action of central and state forces and posed why no arrest has been made from the side of the Kukis.
On the other hand, Meira Paibi activists of Nongpok Lourembam, Ukhongshang, Nongpok Sekmai, Shikhong, Shikhong Bazar, Hijam Khunou and Nongpok Ingourok also converged at Nongpok Sekmai police station.
Another mass court arrest protest was held in front of Leishangthem police outpost by meira paibis of Leishangthem and Thoudam.
