Imphal, September 21 2023:
Locals in Meitei Langol have resolved to launch a series of agitations by consulting with different civil society organisations if the Government fails to remove the Central security forces from their locality.
Speaking to the media at Manipur Press Club today, executive member of Meitei Langol Apunba Meira Paibi Lup Soibam ongbi Memcha Devi said that the presence of a large number of Central security personnel in their area has made the locals restless.
Claiming that the Central forces don't even allow the street lamps in the locality to be on during late hours and the same is making the people uncomfortable, she urged the Government to understand the plight of the people and do the needful.
The Central forces have been intimidating the Meeteis in the locality, she claimed and reiterated that they will launch agitations if the Government continues to deploy Central forces at Meetei Langol.
Saying that there have been no cases of violence at Meitei Langol areas in the recent past other than Central forces intimidating the locals, she urged the Government to send them (the Central forces) to sensitive areas at Churachandpur, Kangpokpi, Moreh etc instead.
Memcha also urged the Government to release the five 'village volunteers' who have been arrested by the police.
