Governor sings paeans to State

Dispelling the common notion that Manipur is one of the least developed States of India, Governor Ashwani Kumar called upon the people to sustain their contribution towards further development of the State.
speaking as the chief guest at the inaugural function of the 1st North East Zonal Council Committee Meeting of Indian Council for Child Welfare (ICCW), New Delhi held today at Classic Hotel, Governor Ashwani hailed the people of Manipur for their continuous endeavour to promote communal harmony.
Noting Manipuris as hard working people inspite of living under a challenging situation, he also praised NGOs working for the protection of child rights.
stating that the responsibility for welfare of children should not be left to the Government or the NGOs and asking the parents to promote a conducive environment for both mental and physical development of the children, the Governor also stressed on the need for judicious implementation of various welfare schemes launched by the Central Government for the children.
Referring to the mid-day meal scheme as one of the noblest projects testifying the Government's commitment towards welfare of the children, he also called upon the NGOs to constantly monitor whether or not such schemes are being implemented in a judicious manner.
Earlier delivering the key-note address ICCW's North East Zonal Committee convenor Y Sarat Singh conveyed that since existence of ICCW in 1952 a total of 119 centre villages for child welfare have been established in Manipur.
Along with the presence of 238 trained workers a total of 2975 children have been covered by various child welfare programmes, he said while highlighting that Manipur having the rare achievement of hosting the ICCW event for the first time will pave the way for implementation of many child welfare projects in the North East region.
As a guest of honour ICCW vice president Padmashree T Phanbuh exhorted the NGOs to sustain their contribution towards development of children.
She also strongly mooted on the need for preventing child trafficking.
The inaugural programme was also attended by Manipur State Council for child Welfare president H Babudhan Sarma and ICCW joint secretary Sushil Ranjan Chowdhury as the functional president and guest of honour respectively.
