Imphal, September 19 2013:
In an incident that is as abhorrent as it is shocking, it has come to light that a man allegedly raped his mother-in-law and turned away the victim.
What is even more outrageous and baffling is that the victim's daughter and wife of the accused decided to keep mum and tried to hush up the matter.
The shocking incident happened at Awang Sekmai Mamang Leikai under Sekmai police station on September 5 and 6 .
Speaking about the incident at Sekmai this afternoon, the 67 year old victim disclosed that her son-in-law raped her for two days on September 5 and 6 .
During those days, the victim was bed-ridden with an illness and her daughter was away.
She was staying together with her bachelor son only.
It was at the suggestion of her daughter that she moved to her son-in-law's home in the hope that she could recover faster under her daughter's care.
But the victim was made to sleep on the verandah.
Even then, she did not harbour any grudges.
Even as the victim narrated the whole incident to her daughter on September 7, the daughter paid little heed and asked the victim to hush up the matter.
The same night the accused threatened the victim that he would kill her.
At this, the victim fled and took shelter at her younger sister's place at Mayang Langjing.
After some days, the victim shifted to another daughter's house, adjacent to the house where she was raped.
Apart from driving away the victim, the accused and his wife charged the victim of stealing Rs 30,000 .
The victim said that the clothes she wore on the days when she was raped by her son-in-law have been hidden by the accused.
The couple have now fled and both used to consume alcohol.
After a complaint was lodged at Sekmai PS on September 17, an FIR case has been registered in connection with the alleged rape case.
