In view of the hardship faced by the state and the district Churachandpur in the light of the recent economic blockade on NH 39 and 53, it has been over two months since any rice from the Food and Civil Supplies reached the district headquarter thereby aggravating the hardship face by the poor people in the district.
For the second consecutive days, to minimized the hardship faced by the people the district administration arrange for PDS rice to be distributed at two places in the town at a subsidised rate of Rs.12 per Kg where one person could get 10 Kg of rice.
The district got 44.91 quintals of rice from the FCS and this rice was being distributed today at two different places at Vengnuom, Tuibuong community hall and YPA Hall, Upper Lamka.
Some people could not get their share of the rice due to shortage, according to source.
Many people came with their Job Cards or identification cards or slip issued by their respective village authorities or youth clubs to collect rice.
Meanwhile, super fine rice which cost Rs.22 per kg.
before the economic blockade now escalated to Rs.27 and all varieties of local rice is also hiked by local businessmen.
The Churachandpur District Students' Union (CDSU) at the onset of the blockade fixed price and urge the local traders not to take advantage of the blockade but it cannot be help and all commodities prices shot up mani-fold.
One beneficiary of the PDS rice said that, they need to buy their daily quota of rice at a very high cost and this makes their lives very miserable and the PDS rice at Rs.12 per Kg comes in handy at the right moment.
She however, felt that 10 Kg per person is too less to sustain them for long and urge the concern agency to enhance the opportunity by allotting more Kg of rice to each person or family.
