Imphal, November 16 2024:
In response to the Jiribam killings, the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has demanded immediate resignation of chief minister N Biren Singh from his post.
In a press meet held at Manipur Press Club here on Saturday, CPI (M) state secretary Kh Shanta informed that the party held a state conference on Friday and took several decisions.
The meeting strongly condemned the killings of innocent women and children including an eight-month old baby, and held the double engine BJP government responsible for the incident.
He then called for the chief minister to resign for failing to end the violence and restore peace in the state, pointing out that the current situation is all due to the failure of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, union home minister Amit Shah and the state chief minister.
"The CM is the biggest reason for the division between the hill and the valley, and the violence will continue as long as he is in power.
There is also a lack of unity among the MLAs," he contended.
Meanwhile, scores of farmers are unable to harvest their crops due to the prevailing violence.
"Taking note of their plights, the government should provide adequate protection to the farmers to allow them to harvest the crops and further pay a compensation of at least Rs 20,000 per month to the displaced people staying in relief camps, " he stressed.
The meeting also decided to push for inclusion of Manipur Language in the classica language list, he added.
Stating that India Bloc would soon hold a meeting, he revealed that after convening an all-political party meeting, CPI will take up the responsibility of bringing the state's issue to the PM's ears.
Meanwhile, CPI-Manipur State Council also held an emergency meeting at around 11.30 am Saturday and condemned the killings of the three hostages abducted by Kukis.
Addressing a press meet held at CPI Manipur State Council office, state secretary L Thoiren said that the meeting strongly condemned the killings and lambasted the state government for failing to save the victims.
He also denounced the re-imposition of AFSPA in six valley police stations amid such a situation in the state.
Former state secretary L Sotinkumar likened the acts of Kuki narco- terrorists to a mad animal roaming free.
"No international body will exhort the act of killing women and children and throwing their bodies into the river.
As such, the party will work with the people in seeking justice against the killers and also
for the revocation of AFSPA" .
