CM suspects Myanmar mercenaries' hand

Imphal, January 02 2024: Chief Minister N Biren Singh has claimed that mercenaries from Myanmar might have a hand in attacking security personnel at the border town of Moreh.

The remarks by the Chief Minister came as five police commandos and three BSF soldiers were injured during a gunfight between militants and security forces in the border town.

Speaking to the media after meeting the injured security personnel at RIMS, N Biren continued that Kuki terrorists have sophisticated weapons in their possession as the bullets they fired penetrated even bullet proof vehicles.

The Chief Minister said that Kuki terrorists have been seen holding sophisticated weapons in a leaked video.

Saying that the Central and State forces have been working together to stop and arrest the Kuki terrorists, he added that a reinforcement team of security forces has been sent to Moreh.

He stated that the Government will not succumb to the threat of terror activities.

It is plausible that foreign mercenaries from Myanmar likely to be KNA-B cadres were involved in attacking security forces at Moreh, N Biren said and maintained that the State Government is constantly in touch with the Government of India.

Whatever the State Government has been doing in Moreh and other areas of Manipur is with the consent and approval of the Central Government, he said.

The Chief Minister met the five security personnel who are undergoing treatment at RIMS, today.

He was accompanied by RD&PR Minister Yumnam Khemchand, Social Welfare Minister Heikham Dingo and president of BJP Manipur Pradesh A Sharda.

Meanwhile, in a Facebook post, the Chief Minister wrote, "We strongly condemn all forms of violence, and the State Government has launched mass combing operations to nab the culprits and the culprits will be punished according to the law.

No one is above the law" .

The Chief Minister also visited Raj Medicity and met those injured during an unfortunate incident at Lilong yesterday.

There, N Biren questioned the rationality of inciting hatred among the people instead of unitedly facing those who want to break the State apart.

Stating that no one must take law into their hands, the Chief Minister maintained that responsibility must be fixed on those who have been creating problems in case the Centre reimposes AFSPA in the valley districts.

He called on the people to identify the common enemy of Manipur and face them unitedly.
