A combined team of Thoubal District Police Commandos and personnel of 27 and 33 Assam Rifles apprehended one KCP (MC) cadre and one PREPAK cadres during a search operation conducted at Nongmaikhong Kompuk area at around 4.30 am today.
Identifying the arrested KCP (MC) as Wangkhem India Singh (49) s/o late W Manikchand Singh of Ithai Khuman Mamang Leikai and the PREPAK cadre as Achom Abung alias Geetchandra Singh s/o A Manimohan Singh of Ithai Bazar Maning Leikai, Senior SP of Thoubal district Clay Khongsai has informed that during preliminary questions, the two arrested cadres disclosed that they are active members of their respective outfits.
On the other hand, Imphal West District Police Commandos apprehended two KCP (MC) activists from Keishampat Thoubal bus parking at around 5.30 pm yesterday.
In a statement, the SP of the district has identified as the arrested cadres as Ngairangbam Chingkheinganba alias Boy alias Malem alias Moramba (28) s/o Ng Ibotombi Singh of Yourbung Mayai Leikai and Md Achouba alias Alam Khan (21) s/o Md Iumakhan of Khabeisoi 7th MT gate.
On spot verification, Chingkheingangba disclosed that be joined KCP (MC) through one Helen of the outfit and is working under his command.
Furthermore, the arrested cadres disclosed that they were assigned to serve demand letters to hotels and shops located in Paona Bazar and also extorted a huge amount of money for party fund, the SP informed, adding that two mobile handsets along with SIM cards have been seized from their possession.
Meanwhile, a team of Imphal East Commandos have arrested three PREPAK cadres from Urup Arapti area at around 8.30 am yesterday.
In a statement, SS of Imphal East district Th Radheshyam identified the arrested PREPAK cadres as Konsam Momen (42) s/o late K Tomba Singh of Arapti Mamang Leikai, Konsam Nando Singh (32) s/o K Amu Singh of Arapti Mamang Leikai and Takhellambam Laingam Singh (29) s/o late T Bihari Singh of Arapti Mamang Leikai.
The SP informed that on verification, the arrested trio disclosed that they are active members of PREPAK and joined the outfit in November 2009 through one Takhellambam Thonglen alias Samananda alias Victor and they are now working under his command and they were involved in extortion of money from general public, Govt officials, etc.
Further, they also provided shelter to other PREPAK cadres and help in transportation of arms and ammunition from one place to another.
On the same day, at around 11 am, a team of district police commandos also arrested one PULF cadres identified as Md Faruk Khan alias Lucky (25) s/o Md Babu Khan of Kshetri Awang Leikai from Sanjenthong area and recovered one demand note in the name of PULF (Azad) addressed to Director of Horticulture and Soil Conservation Department from his possession, the SP further informed.
On verification, arrested cadre disclosed that he joined PULF in March 2010 through one Ayub Ali and is now working under his command and he was involved in extortion of money from general public, Govt officials, etc, the SP added.
Troops of 22 Assam Rifles of 57 Mountain Artillery Brigade of the Red Shield Division also apprehended one self-stled lieutenant of PLA identified as Meisnam Pramud alias Johny from Kamaranga area of Jiribam sub-division of Imphal East district on December 20 .
Acccording to a press hand out of PIB (Defence Wing), the arrested individual has been handed over to JIribam Police Station on December 20 itself.
The arrested PLA cadre is suspected to be the finance secretary of the banned outfit in Jiribam abd Cachar area, the press hand-out said, adding that arrest of the hard core cadre has given a severe blow to the banned outfit.
The press handout further informed that earlier on December 19, 22 Assam Rifles apprehended one overground worker of PREPAK identified as Chourjit Meitei of Sorok Atingbi, Hillghat, Jiribam.
He was working on behalf of the banned outfit to recruit new cadres from the area, the press handout said, while informing that one mobile phone which contained several messages regarding recruitment was recovered from the possession of the arrested OGW, who has been subsequently handed over to the police where he admitted to his crime.
