Manipur government expects the Nagaland government to return Manipur State Road Transport Corporation's land in Dimapur after Christmas.
Nagaland CM Neiphiu Rio had assured that land belonging to MSRTC in Dimapur Town Block-III which were allotted to seven private individuals by the authority of the Nagaland government would be returned to Manipur.
The assurance was given to a ministerial team from Manipur in the last week of November 2010 .
"We are expecting return of the land after Christmas," Education Minister, L Jayentakumar informed the house of the Manipur Legislative Assembly today.
In a reply to a question raised by opposition leader, Radhabinod Koijam of NCP, the minister claimed that the recent visit of the ministerial team led by him was a success.
During the visit, the minister said that apart from inspecting the present condition of the MSRTC complex, they had called on the Nagaland CM who assured that the land will be returned to Manipur.
Jayentakumar said that the land was under the possession of the Manipur government since 1969 but the Nagaland government had not informed the Government of Manipur of the allotting of the land to private individuals.
About the construction of buildings and a church inside the MSTRC complex, the minister said that they had witnessed the same during the visit and Nagaland Chief Minister was requested to take up necessary actions for eviction.
The two day winter session of the Manipur Legislative Assembly commenced today at 11 am.
The House passed an obituary reference on the passing away of former members of the House, Sinam Bijoy of the Manipur Territorial Council, Dr Sapam Budhichandra, Speaker of the current Assembly, Songchinkup, former chairman of the Hill Areas Committee and Z Mangaibou, former Deputy Speaker.
On the other hand, two members of the Assembly, both from the ruling party today filed nomination papers for the post of the Speaker of the House, lying vacant since the passing away of sitting Speaker Dr S Budhichandra in September last.
I Hemochandra and L Nandakumar filed their nomination papers and the election to the post will be held at 10 am tomorrow, the last day of the winter session.
However, sources close to the Congress said that Nandakumar is likely to withdraw his candidature.
