Labour Minister Ph Parijat today assured that the minimum daily wage, entitled to a labourer in Manipur, would be increased from the existing rate of Rs 81.80 very soon.
He also assured that two night shelter homes would be constructed for the conveniences of labourers who come to work at Khwairamband Bazar but cannot return home due to some difficulties.
Speaking as chief guest of the first anniversary function of the Manipur Senmit Ehou Lup at Manipur Press Club here today, the Minister acknowledged that the minimum daily wage of Rs 81.80 fixed by the Labour Department, Government of Manipur has become outdated.
Now one kilogram of local rice is costing above Rs 20 and Superfine rice Rs 18.Therefore the minimum wage needs to be increased, the Minister said.
Lauding the educated but unemployed members of Manipur Senmit Ehou Lup, who are working as porters during day time and as guards during night time in Khwairamband Bazar, the Minister encouraged every labourers to under the labour laws and work for ensuring their rights.
The Minister informed the gathering that there are at present 23 labour related laws in the country.
The 23 laws should be highlighted.
All these 23 laws should be aware of by the labourers, the Minister said, adding that the Labour Department of the State Govt has started launching awareness campaign in this regard and the campaign would be taken to all parts of the State.
The Minister also announced that the Labour Dept would be setting up two night shelter homes for the labourers who come for work at Khwairamband Bazar but could not return home.
