Imphal, November 20 2023:
Former Acting Chairperson of Manipur Human Rights Commission, senior Advocate Khaidem Mani has written to Director General of Police Rajiv Singh to take legal action against 10 Kuki MLAs for "causing disharmony, inciting and promoting enmity between Meitei and Kuki communities".
In the letter addressed to the DGP, Khaidem Mani alleged that the 10 Kuki MLAs are the "architect" of the present conflict between the Kuki and the Meitei community.
He pointed out that the 10 MLAs including two Cabinet Ministers have openly demanded a separate administration for Kukis from the existing State of Manipur.
This has promoted enmity, feeling of enmity, hatred or ill-will between the Kuki and the Meitei community and resulted in the killing of each other since the last six months.
They [10 MLAs] are the "architect" of the present conflict between the Kuki and the Meetei communities, alleged the former Acting Chairperson of the MHRC.
The 10 MLAs belonging to the Kuki-Zomi-Hmar community are members of the ruling Government.
Seven belong to the BJP, two are members of KPA (Kuki People's Alliance) and one is Independent, said the letter addressed to the DGP.
The letter mentioned that on May 12, the 10 MLAs issued a joint statement wherein they alleged that the violence since May 3 had already partitioned the State and effected a total separation from the State of Manipur.
On May 15, the 10 MLAs submitted a memorandum to Union Home Minister Amit Shah on the same line.
The 10 MLAs' statement and the memorandum clearly show their intention.
They have committed heinous crimes against the people of Manipur thereby promoting enmity between the Kukis and the Meiteis, claimed Khaidem Mani.
The 10 MLAs including the two Cabinet Ministers have instigated and intentionally aided Kuki militants and separatist Kuki people in doing many illegal and unlawful things in the name of demanding separate administration, and they have created communal enmity between the communities, alleged Khaidem Mani.
The 10 MLAs have committed illegal and communal acts while they have not resigned as MLAs, he alleged, urging the Director General of Police to "take appropriate legal action against them in the interest of justice" .
