Imphal, November 20 2023:
The deeply worried mothers of Maibam Avinash and Ningthoujam Anthony, the two students who disappeared on November 5 were made to wait for Chief Minister N Biren for nine long hours at a police station along with a group of women who accompanied them.
Speaking to media persons at Manipur Press Club here this evening, Ningthoujam Premlata and Maibam (O) Devarani said that they went together with a group of women to meet the Chief Minister at around 10 am today.
16 year old Maibam Avinash and 19 year old Ningthoujam Anthony, both belonging to Akham village, Imphal West district went missing after they left home on November 5 to attend a public meeting at Awang Sekmai on the same day.
Anthony's mother N Premlata said that they met Governor Anusuiya Uikey at the Raj Bhavan on November 6."We also met the Chief Minister and made fervent appeals to trace and rescue our sons.
We were hopeful of seeing our boys soon on hearing the assurances given by the two leaders", Premlata said.
On the following days, reports of the arrest of a few suspects involved in kidnapping the teenagers were received.
Although it has been more than 10 days since the suspects were arrested, there is little or no development in the search and rescue operations, Premlata said in a voice choked with emotion.
"We, the two worried mothers and a group of local women went for a meeting with the Chief Minister this morning.
But we were taken inside Imphal police station and made to wait for the Chief Minister from morning till 7 pm", she said.
Decrying that they were denied any meeting with the Chief Minister after forcing them to wait from morning till evening, Premlata asked the Government to come out with a clear report whether the boys are alive or dead.
She then questioned the Government's inability to trace the two boys even after some suspects have been arrested.
Devarani, mother of Avinash said that they would never again go to the CM.
She said, "We now hand over the whole issue of the missing boys to the JAC and the people of Manipur" .
