Opposition parties point fingers at Govt

Imphal, October 25 2023: Asserting that the BJP Government has failed to curb the almost 6-months old conflict, ten Opposition Political Parties (AAP, AIFB, AITC, CPI, CPI (M), INC, JDU, NCP, RSP, SS (UBT) have demanded restoration of peace in Manipur.

Addressing the media at Manipur Press Club today, Shiv Sena (UBT) president Toijam Debananda Singh appealed to the State Government to initiate resettlement of all conflict survivors who are staying at relief camps in their original homes.

Questioning the prolonged silence of MLAs and Ministers who are part of the BJP Government, he expressed suspicion if they harbour any hidden agenda.

With regard to Chief Minister N Biren Singh's often touted statement that 'peace is slowly returning in the State', he pointedly asked what kind of peace the Chief Minister is referring to.

"Many bunkers continue to crop up regularly in the foothill regions.

There are constant impediments to the movement of essential goods including gas and fuel along the National Highways.

Kuki Inpi Tengnoupal has vehemently opposed the resettlement of Meiteis in Moreh.

Are these examples of peace returning in Manipur?", he asked.

On behalf of the ten Opposition Political Parties, Toijam Debananda Singh also strongly condemned the BJP Government's inability to recover the bodies of two young students Phijam Hemanjit and Linthoingambi Hijam who went missing on July 6 despite reportedly knowing that the duo were taken towards New Cachar Road, Khoupum Tampak.

Since a few suspected culprits have already been arrested in connection with the brutal double murder, he urged the Central and State Government to locate the bodies of the two students and enable their respective families to perform their last rites.
