Imphal, November 16 2024:
Denouncing the brutal killing of hostages, including three young children, taken hostage by the Chin-Kuki militants from Jiribam, the World Meetei Council (WMC) has petitioned Prime Minister Narendra Modi to designate Chin -Kuki groups as 'terrorist' organisations In the memorandum, WMC denounced that the innocent civilians were killed in the most heinous and barbaric manner.
Adding to the suffering, the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA), 1958 has been re-imposed in several areas predominantly inhabited by the Meetei community.
In light of developments, WMC demanded immediate abrogation of SoO agreement between Government of India and Chin-Kuki terrorists, alleging that the agreement is being exploited to perpetuate violence and disrupt the peace in Manipur.
The Council, while demanding revocation of the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA), urged the army and paramilitary forces to act against Chin-Kuki terrorists.
Pointing out that the violence has been exacerbated by the abject inefficiency of the incumbent chief minister N Biren, it demanded a change of guard in Manipur.
