Imphal, May 06 2026:
A non-local fraud who impersonated someone else and joined service at RIMS has been remanded in police custody till May 11 .
The accused Jitendra Meena (30) s/o (L) Bajranga Lal Meena of Jeerota ward number 2 Rajasthan was arrested yesterday afternoon from the main gate of RIMS administration block by a team of Lamphel police station, Imphal West.
Jitendra Meena was produced before the Court of Chief Judicial Magistrate, Imphal West today.
An APP of the State submitted that the arrest was made after a case was registered based on a complaint lodged by Deputy Director, RIMS which stated that an organized racket indulged in impersonation, fraud and cheating in the common recruitment examination 2024 conducted by AIIMS, New Delhi at certain examination centres.
It was through such illegal acts that the accused fraudulently secured employment at RIMS Imphal.
Jitendra Meena applied for the common recruitment examination held in 2024 under the Scheduled Tribe category and the examination was conducted on February 25, 2025 at Bhubaneswar, Odisha.
Based on the mark secured in the examination, he was declared successful and was subsequently appointed to the post of multi-tasking staff at RIMS on August 18, 2025.The complaint further mentions that as a part of the post selection formalities, facial/iris/palm/biometric verification of candidates was conducted on March 13, 2026 at RIMS by the authorized agencies.
During the verification, it was found that the fingerprint of Jitendra Meena did not match with the biometric data captured at the time of the examination at the examination centre at Bhubaneswar.
The discrepancy clearly indicated that an unknown person had impersonated Jitendra Meena and appeared in the examination on behalf of the accused, thereby enabling fraudulent selection and appointment, the APP said.
The accused is presently working/posted in the office of Dean (Academics) RIMS.
During the verification, it was clearly established that the biometric credentials (including fingerprint and facial data) of the individual who appeared in the examination did not correspond with the biometric data of the accused.
It indicates impersonation and strongly suggests that the accused fraudulently secured selection and subsequent appointment by using another person to appear on his behalf or by manipulation of identity verification mechanism, the APP said.
Saying that custodial interrogation of the accused is essential as the case involves impersonation at the National level examination and also to identify the impersonator, trace coconspirators and recover digital/financial evidence, the APP prayed for remanding the accused in police custody for six days.
The Court, after hearing the submission of the APP and on perusal of the case record, remanded Jitendra Meena in police custody till May 11 .
