Many rescued from swirling water

The rain which has been pouring down for the last four days took a heavy toll in Imphal East district with reports of river banks breaching at some points pouring in today.
Rescue operation was ongoing at severely affected areas like Mantripukri, Wangkhei Khunou, and Khurai Heikrumakhong and the 4th Assam Rifles used inflatable boats to rescue people.
The rescue operation at Mantripukhri and Wangkhei areas, which were severely flooded due to the overflow of the Imphal River and the collapse of its riverbank at Checkon commenced at around 11.30 am .
A total of 193 people were rescued at Wangkhei Khunou area by 2.30 pm, comprising 64 males, 85 females, and 44 children.
Rescue operations began around noon at Khurai Heikrumakong area, resulting in the evacuation of 375 people, including 99 males, 175 females, and 101 children by 2.30 pm .
Over 30 elderly and differently-abled individuals were among those rescued and received immediate medical attention at the site.
Two minor children who went missing at Heikrumakong area were found safe in a house.
They were evacuated from the floodwaters and reunited with their families.
The rescue team is currently conducting operations at Mantripukhri, which is severely waterlogged following the collapse of a 10-foot section of the Imphal River's retaining wall at Ahallup Makha Leikai around 11 am.
According to sources, rescue operation was launched at Mother Teresa Orphanage in Mantripukhri, which houses many elderly, physically disabled, children, and special needs individuals continued till evening.
The rescue team successfully evacuated 65 individuals from Mother Teresa Orphanage at Mantripukhri, relocating them to safety and also transferring their belongings and essential items to the 1st and 2nd floors of the building.
Security forces also conducted rescue operations at Checkon and Sanjenthong Officers' Colony this morning.
During the rescue operation, Major General Ravoop Singh (IGAR South) visited the flood-affected areas to oversee the situation and supervise the rescue efforts.
With the flood situation growing grimmer in several parts of the State, widespread flooding, large-scale destruction and loss of properties have been reported from both Senapati and Kangpokpi districts.
