Imphal, April 25 2019:
Joint Students' Coordinating Committee (JSCC) has alleged that despite giving information to the police regarding the alleged kidnap of a minor girl by an individual, the authority concerned has failed to take up any tangible action till date.
Speaking to media persons at AMSU HQs at DM College today, JSCC convenor Manjit Sarangthem said that the 13 year old minor girl, who is a class VIII student, went out from her home on December 31 last year and has been missing till today.
He continued that on the said day, the said minor had informed her family members through her mobile phone that she had eloped.
The family members waited for news regarding the elopement from the potential groom side but none came and as such a complaint was lodged with the police station concerned on January 2 .
He continued that in the said complaint, it was clearly mentioned that the minor was kidnapped by one Md Aslam Khan (21) s/o Juma Khan of Pangong Makhong of Imphal East district.
Manjit then explained that way back in 2014, the said individual Aslam Khan was rescued by AMSU from Bangalore after his family approached AMSU saying that Aslam had run away from home.
Coming to the case of the missing minor, even when the complaint was filed, the police questioned only Juma Khan but failed to do anything to find Aslam or the girl, Manjit alleged.
On the other hand, the FIR also did not mention any POCSO related terms and the case was also not handed over to women PS, he added.
Manjit continued that it might be due to the lack of fast response from the police and the authorities concerned that crimes against women and child trafficking seem to be on the rise in the State.
If the authority concerned fails to find and hand over the minor girl to her family within 15 days, JSCC along with various CSOs will be forced to take up necessary actions, including taking up a legal approach.
