Mob destroys three houses

Imphal, April 09 2010:
A mob today destroyed houses of three youths who have been arrested by the police on charge of assaulting a football player last night at the site of Thabal Chongba at Chagangei Uchekon under Lamphel Police Station in Imphal west district.
The badly injured 24-year old football player of the Sports Authority India (SAI), Imphal, identified as Wahengbam Chiranjit, son of Dhanajoy of Ghari Awang Leikai, is at present in the ICU (Intensive Care Unit) of Shija Hosptals at Langol under serious condition.
The three youths rounded up by the police for their alleged involvement in the assault of the footballer were identified as Thongam Millan (22), son of Th Babuof Ghari Makha Leikai, Sorokhaibam Ithoi (21), son of Sanatomba and Pingsubam Bishowrjit (21), son of late Rajen of same locality with the first one.
A team of police led by officer in-charge of the Lamphel Police Station, inspector Ingocha rounded up the trio today, at about 11.45 am from a house at Toubungkhok under Patsoi Police Station.
The trio attacked the footballer following a quarrel at a Thabal Chongpham at Chagangei Uchekon last night, at about 10 pm.
They attacked Chiranjit even though an agreement was brought about at the same place through negotiation.
When Chiranjan returned home after the Thabal Chongba, Millan and his two friends who were waiting for him on the way attacked Chiranjit with deadly weapons.
Some youths coming out from the Thabal Chongpham found Chiranjit lying in unconscious state with severe injury at the head on the side of the road along the Tidim road at about 400 meter from the place of Thabal Chongpham evacuated him at Raj Policlinic, North AOC after informing to his family at about midnight.
With the observation of bleeding near the brain in the head, Chiranjit was admitted at the ICU award of the hospital.
He has been referred to Shija Hospital today, at about 2.30 pm.
Outrage over the badly assault on Chiranjan, locals rose up and ransacked houses of the three youths at about 8.30 am, before police round up them.
However, police prevented the mob before totally razing the houses to ground.
In the follow up action to the incident, police has also recovered an empty bottle of wine,
a bloodstained log.
