Manipur Renewable Energy Resource Development Agency (MANIREDA) has started lighting of streets with solar lamp.
A total of 5663 solar street lamps are targeting to install across the valley area of the state by the agency, officials said.
The works of installation of the street lamps sponsored by the MAHUD and PRI was launched today at Thongkhong Luxmi Bazar in Imphal West with MLA of Wangoi A/C, Salam Joy as Chief Guest.
The launching function was organised by jointly by the Samurou Nagar Panchayat, Wangoi Nagar Panchayat and Thongkhong Luxmi Nagar Panchayat.
Speaking on the occasion, project officer of MANIREDA, Y Kunjo said that MANIREDA is efforting to translate into action government project of lighting streets across the valley area with solar lamps after the agency has successfully implemented wind and solar hybrid power generation micro projects at 150 hill villages across the state.
Chief Minister, O Ibobi led SPF government had reflected fund in the 2009-10 state budget for lighting streets with solar lamps.
A total of 5663 lamps will be installed for lighting streets in the valley areas, he said.
Streets lamp under the project had already completed at Heirok, Thoubal, Keirak, Wabagai in Thoubal district and the installation of the solar lamps at Yairipok and Lilong of Thoubal district and in some places in Imphal west district have also started, he added.
The state is targeting to utilize 20,000 Megawatt of solar power within 2020, he went on to say elaborately speaking on the benefits of inexhaustible solar power.
Speaking as chief guest of the function, MLA Salam Joy said appealed the gathering to extend corporation to the effort of lighting the street taken up by the government by giving no acting to an activities which would hindered to the installation works.
Director of MANIREDA, L Manglem who presided over the function said talked on the activities taken up by MANIREDA for lighting power for renewable power sources.
