Imphal, April 09 2010:
The State Government is seriously mulling to develop Loushipat of Kakching as a model agricultural village, according to Chief Minister Okram Ibobi.
Ibobi was speaking as chief guest at the inaugural function of a newly constructed multipurpose community hall at Kakching Mayai Leikai.
In addition to developing modern agricultural infrastructure like irrigation system and other necessities, modern roads would also be constructed through Loushipat in order to facilitate easy transportation of agricultural items produced in the area, Ibobi assured the gathering.
He noted that Kakching, Wangjing-Tentha and Wabagai are the Assembly Constituencies which produce greater quantities of agricultural produces.
By developing model villages in each of these constituencies so that other areas emulate them, the State Government is hoping to make Manipur self-reliant in terms of staple food, Ibobi said.
To realise this cherished dream, the State Government would take up all initiatives deemed necessary in consultation with representatives of farmers.
Observing that the people of Kakching are diligent and laborious besides fostering a strong sense of unity, the Chief Minister noted that Kakching has been an important commercial centre of the State since the past.
The Government is preparing a blue-print to develop and expand Kakching town.
If the same plan receives public cooperation, the Government would put in necessary efforts to develop Kakching as a big commercial centre, Ibobi stated.
He further assured that the Kakching Fire Sub-Station would be upgraded according to the needs of the time.
