Kangpokpi, August 02 2023:
A 12-hour total shutdown and a mass prayer are set to mark 90 days of violence in the State at Kangpokpi district headquarters tomorrow.
The Committee on Tribal Unity (CoTU) Sadar Hills has imposed a 12-hour total shutdown from 6 am to 6 pm tomorrow in Kangpokpi district against the non-withdrawal of State security forces from Moreh and fresh cases of Kuki residential houses being gutted by an inferno in Imphal over the past two days.
Meanwhile, the Kangpokpi Christian Tribal Churches Leaders Fellowship is all set to organize a mass prayer at Brig M Thomas Ground at Kangpokpi District Headquarters tomorrow at 8 am.
It may be noted that earlier CoTU had demanded the Government to withdraw State security forces including the Police Commandos from Moreh during its sit-in-protest on July 31 at Kangpokpi.
In this connection, Lamminlun Singsit, CoTU general secretary said that their appeal to the Centre to withdraw the State security forces from Moreh has gone unheeded.
On top of this, he also mentioned cases where residential houses of Kukis were burnt in Imphal valley in the last two days.
Thus, CoTU made the decision to impose the 12-hour total shutdown, he said.
Further, he conveyed that the total shutdown will mark the three-month long violence and also to pay respect to the departed Kuki souls lost in the conflict.
He then appealed to the public to understand the sentiments of the Kuki people and support
the total shutdown.
