Imphal, August 02 2023:
Sagolband MLA RK Imo has urged all parliamentarians to prioritise discussion on the prevailing unrest situation in Manipur and also stressed the need for unity and meaningful dialogue to bring about lasting peace and progress in the state.
The MLA emphasised that political affiliations should not overshadow the genuine concerns of the state and its people.
While appealing to the MPs, regardless of their party loyalties, to allow the parliament to function efficiently and effectively allowing both the Union Home Minister and the Prime Minister to express their views, he highlighted the significance of informed decisions, open communication, and proactive measures to address the pressing issues faced by the state.
"As a Manipuri, I strongly believe that we all deserve to be informed about the matters being discussed, the programmes being planned, and the steps being taken to ensure peace in our state," RK Imo said.
At the forefront of the challenges, the MLA addressed the ongoing ethnic conflict, acknowledging that it has grown into a complex and deeply-rooted issue.
Additionally, he highlighted the problem of illegal immigration and arms smuggling from across the border posing serious threats to the state's security and stability.
He expressed concern over involvement of external elements with substantial financial backing in the on-going violence, and called for immediate attention and action.
In the context of the prevailing three-month conflict, MLA RK Imo said, "Infiltration of not only human resources but also weapons from across the border has been reported, necessitating a central agency and the Ministry of Home Affairs to investigate and act accordingly".
To ensure a path towards peace, he advocated for disarmament, urging all stakeholders, including insurgent groups and foreign militias, to surrender their weapons.
He stressed the importance of disarming not only the armed groups but also of individuals who have looted police armouries, contributing to the cycle of violence.
By fostering open and inclusive discussions with all stakeholders, MLA RK Imo believed that Manipur can pave the way for a brighter future and lasting peace in the region.
As the state grapples with challenges that require urgent attention, he called upon the Union home minister to actively engage in the parliament and express his views and emphasised the importance of the home minister's presence in the parliament to address the concerns and issues faced by the state.
