Imphal, August 02 2023:
Male residents of different villages under Lamlai assembly constituency formed Lamlai Kendra Village Volunteers' Force with Y Basan as its commander in-chief in order to protect the villages from persistent attacks by heavily armed Kuki militants.
Addressing a press meet at Seijang Makha Leikai community hall on Wednesday, Basan said that a public meeting of different villages was held at Pungdongbam Awang Leikai community hall on July 21, during which the present situation in the state as well as Lamlai assembly constituency was discussed.
The meeting adopted a resolution to form the VVF in order to protect the villages from Chin-Kuki narco-terrorists, who have been attacking peripheral Meetei villages.
Consequently, the VVF was formed with a central control committee to oversee the overall activities of the force, he said.
Basan further said that out of the nine persons killed in Khamenlok incident, five were from Lamlai assembly constituency.
At present, villages like Thamnapokpi, Sanasabi, Sabungk-hok Khunjao and Sabungkhok Khunou are at the receiving end of persistent attacks by Kuki militants, which necessitated the formation of the volunteers' force, he reasoned.
