CCpur, August 02 2023:
With the Indigenous Tribal Leaders' Forum (ITLF) all set for burial of 30/40 Kuki-Zo 'martyrs' at Haolai Khopi village on Thursday, large number of people including women rushed in and stayed at the village since early Wednesday morning.
On learning about heavy deployment of security personnel at Haolai Khopi village, large number of Kuki-Zo people mostly women rushed to the village from 9 am and stayed in the village.
As number of people swelled, security forces left the village about 2 pm.
However, it is likely that people who rushed to the village would be staying overnight to thwart any attempt to obstruct the burial ceremony as government is against burial of Kuki-Zo martyrs at the village.
Meanwhile, the Central Village Defence Force (c), a conglomerate of 28 defence forces, said that mortal remains of Kuki-Zo martyrs will be laid to rest at Haolai Khopi village on Thursday and all the preparation for the same have been made.
Sharing pains and grief of family members of the martyrs, a CQVF statement said Kuki-Zo martyrs deserve deepest and highest respect and prayed for their souls to rest in peace.
It cautioned the Meeteis that any attempt to abort last rites of the 'martyrs' will not be tolerated and asserted the burial ceremony will be carried forward with all might until Kuki-Zo people's political goal of deliverance is reached.
The CDVF also warned the proposed rally to be organised by valley-based CSOs on August 13 from Imphal to Lamka will be opposed tooth and nail and unauthorised and unwarranted intruders will be firmly dealt with.
