Assam Rifles responds to distress calls

In response to a request for assistance from DCs of Imphal East and Imphal West, Assam Rifles has been carrying out flood relief under Operation Jal Rahat' since July 2 .
As part the operation, soldiers of Assam Rifles assisted in plugging the breaches in Imphal, Kongba and Iril rivers.
Utilising the boats available with them, the Assam Rifles successfully evacuated over 1200 people who were stranded in areas inundated by waters flowing out of the rivers.
In addition, medical aid was provided in the affected areas, said PRO IGAR (S) in a release, adding that Assam Rifles had also evacuated over 6000 persons and distributed aid materials, including food, medicines and water, during the floods caused by Cyclone Remal between May 28 and June 5 .
In the past three days over 200 soldiers of Assam Rifles have been committed on a daily basis to provide assistance during these difficult times, the PRO maintained.
Assam Rifles also responded to a distress call and recovered a vehicle that had gone offroad near Moulhoih village on July 4 .
The vehicle had veered off course at the Kangvai-Moulhoih road and fallen into a ditch, leaving the driver with minor injuries.
The village chief and the driver requested urgent assistance to which Assam Rifles promptly reacted.
A team with a recovery vehicle was dispatched to the site, and after a four-hour effort, the vehicle was successfully retrieved.
Meanwhile, Assam Rifles provided crucial medical assistance to Atom Aboyaima, a 68-year-oId resident of Phubala village, Bishnupur district.
Aboyaima sustained a snakebite on his right leg while working in the fields.
Aboyaima's condition improved after receiving medical care at the Assam Rifles Unit Hospital in Sendra village, which included wound dressing and medication, the release further informed.
