Army commemorates 78th Infantry Day

Indian Army on Sunday honoured the bravery and sacrifices of its infantry soldiers by organising events at the Leimakhong Military Station in Manipur and the Zakhama Military Station in Nagaland, on the occasion of the 78th Infantry Day, also known as Shaurya Diwas.
According to PRO Defence, the day marks the successful landing of the Indian Army at the Srinagar Airfield on October 27,1947, which played a crucial role in thwarting the invasion by Pakistani tribals and forces.
The battle of 1947 was the first successful military operation of'the independent India.
To commemorate the occasion, solemn wreath-laying ceremonies took place at the war memorials in Leimakhong and Zakhama to honour and remember the courage of fallen infantry heroes.
Additionally, a special documentary was screened, highlighting the contributions of the Corps of Infantry in various operations and their role in safeguarding the nation.
Red Shield Division GOC, officers, junior commissioned officers, soldiers and veterans honoured the bond between generations of soldiers and their shared commitment to duty by sharing the stage during the celebrations, said the PRO in a release.
