900 in Jiri relief camps, CS tells Uikey

At present, around 900 people of Jiribam are taking refuge in relief camps, according to Chief Secretary Dr Vineet Joshi.
The Chief Secretary called on Governor Anusuiya Uikey at Raj Bhavan this evening and apprised her about various measures taken up for the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in relief camps in different parts of the State.
The Chief Secretary informed the Governor that essential commodities are being given and arrangements for providing temporary shelter homes for the IDPs are in progress both in the hills and the valley, conveyed a press release issued by the Governor's Secretariat.
When asked about the situation at Jiribam district, Vineet Joshi said around 900 IDPs are in relief camps and their requirements are being provided.
He said DC Jiribam has been asked to assess the damaged houses and properties for taking up necessary arrangements.
The Governor also discussed the issue of DM University with the Chief Secretary and directed him to expedite ways for appointment of a new Vice Chancellor and to facilitate joining of newly selected Assistant Professors.
She also asked the CS to look after the issue of transportation of relief materials from IRCS to the State through Guwahati.
Major General (retd) TPS Rawat, president, VARINDERA Construction Ltd too called on the Governor at Raj Bhavan this evening along with a contractor and apprised her about the progress of construction works of National Sports University.
He informed the Governor that around 50 per cent of the total construction works have been completed and remaining works will be completed by March next year.
He said, due to the ongoing issue between the two communities, there have been issues of security of the workforce, machinery etc but after the deployment of CRPF in the University campus, construction works have been making good progress and a workforce of 450 has been engaged.
The Governor appreciated their efforts and asked them to inform her whenever any issue arises and also asked them to meet the Chief Secretary and the DGP.
The Governor also assured them that peace and normalcy will be restored soon as the Centre is committed to resolve the crisis in the State.
