Imphal, July 05 2024:
N Loken, former president of Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC), has said that the BJP party criticising the recent speech given by Inner Manipur MP Dr Bimol Akoijam on the floor of Parliament is comical and embarrassing.
Speaking to the media at his residence at Sangaiprou today, Loken continued that the about eight minute long speech delivered by Bimol Akoijam in the Lok Sabha was not during a general discussion hour.
He said that the State Government and the BJP party have seemingly taken a stand to react to whatever the Opposition parties say without analysing the facts of the matter.
It would be good for the State and the country when the Opposition is vibrant, Loken said and added that the Government, however, wants to suppress the voice of the Opposition parties.

Claiming that the Government also tried to not give any time to Bimol Akoijam to speak during the first session of the 18th Lok Sabha, Loken maintained that Bimol delivered his motion of thanks on the President's address in the Lok Sabha at midnight around 11.52 pm.
Loken went on to state that no session should be held at midnight according to Parliamentary practice.
The State Assembly had already adopted a resolution to abrogate Suspension of Operation (SoO) pact and implement National Register of Citizens (NRC) in Manipur, Loken said and reiterated that the speech given by Bimol was a motion of thanks on the President's address and not a general discussion.
Asking why the BJP didn't react when its own Rajya Sabha MP Leisemba Sanajaoba has not uttered a single word about Manipur in Parliament, he added that the remark given by the Prime Minister on the Manipur crisis was in Rajya Sabha and not Lok Sabha.
People would have been happy had the Prime Minister given his assurance to resolve the crisis within a set period of time and announced a special package for the State in his address to the Rajya Sabha, Loken said.
Other than giving random statements on the Manipur crisis, the Government should show some commitment to restore normalcy in Manipur, he said.
Loken continued that all elected representatives should work together to end the crisis in Manipur and address the grievances of the displaced people by setting aside all political differences.
Politicking can be done at the time of elections, the Congress leader said.
