Govt appeals COCOMI to drop Torbung stir plan

The state government has appealed COCOMI to withdraw the mass protest to remove the barricades of central security forces installed in Phougakchao Ikhai and Torbung area, which COCOMI has been planning to carry out on Wednesday.
Addressing a press conference at DIPR auditorium here on late Tuesday evening, IPR minister Dr Sapam Ranjan said that COCOMI has been planning to stage a protest in Phougakchao Ikhai and Torbung area by breaching the army barricades.
On behalf of the government, he appealed to the COCOMI to withdraw the plan and fur ther said that the government has removed many of the barricades already.
Moreover, around 700 displaced people of Torbung area, who were taking refuge in various relief camps, have started to return and resettle in their original houses, which had not been damaged, during the past few days.
The government is urging the general public and also the civil society organisations to support the various security provisions and steps taken up by the government, he added.
Education minister Th Basanta Kumar, who was also present at the press briefing, said that situation is improving gradually in the state except for some skirmishes in some isolated areas.
Keeping in view of COCOMI's planned stir, the government has imposed full curfew in the whole valley districts of the state on Wednesday, he added.
