Imphal, September 05 2023:
Alleging that a large portion of one widow's plot of land in Porompat Village No 28 under Imphal East district was sold without her knwoledge, the Meitei Pangal Council Manipur (MPCM) has urged the Government to book the culprits involved and dole out appropriate punishment.
Condemning the incident during a press briefing held at Golapati Hatta today, Haji Arafat Ali, president MPCM said that the Council will always stand with victims in the face of anti-social elements attempting to dupe disadvantaged people of their property, money or belongings.
Shedding more light on the unfortunate incident, Haji Arafat Ali shared that the plot of land measuring point 38 (.38) in question belongs to one widow, Sanayai.
However, in official documents, the land is registered under the name of one Tolchou.
Reportedly, Tolchou was the maternal grandfather of Sanayai's deceased husband Rashid Ali.
Under these circumstances, some unscrupulous persons allegedly schemed with the relevant Government department staff to manipulate the documents and discreetly sold off a large chunk of Sanayai's land, leaving behind only a meagre portion measuring around point 2.5 (.2.5), he claimed.
Thus, the MPCM president has called upon the State Government to take up necessary action against everyone involved, including the departmental staff, and punish them as per the law of the land.
