Imphal, July 27 2025:
The Institution of Engineers (India), Manipur State Centre, on Sunday organised a one-day orientation programme for masons on "Understanding of Building Drawings and Earthquake-Resistant Construction Techniques" .
The programme, held at the seminar hall of IEI Manipur State Centre at Government Polytechnic Campus, Takyel, was attended by around 50 masons and many from the engineering community, including retired MPHC chief engineer Salam Romendra, PWD superintending engineer Thongram Kontol, IEI Manipur State Centre chairman L Swami-kanta, honorary secretary Dr Th Subhaschandra and Dr N Shyamananda.
Dr Shyamananda said that the programme was designed to help masons clearly understand and interpret the building blueprints provided by engineers and architects.
He noted that such training is essential as the seismic classification of the Northeast region is undergoing changes, requiring updated construction practices to withstand earthquakes.
Experts at the event provided detailed instructions on implementing these changes in practical construction work.
The Institution has organised several similar programmes in the past and plans to continue the initiative by conducting on-site training at construction locations and across different districts of the state, Dr Shyamananda added.
