Pointless : RK Anand on one day session

Imphal, August 27 2023: In a strongly worded allegation, ex-MLA cum social activist RK Anand has said that the upcoming one-day session of the Manipur Legislative Assembly would be anti-Nation, anti-State, anti-people and one of the most pointless act of summoning the House in the history of Manipur.

Addressing the media during a press briefing at the residence of veteran politician O Joy at Kakwa today, RK Anand continued that the Assembly session scheduled on August 29 is not a normal session.

What the people aspire is for the Government to discuss the volatile situation in Manipur and the demand for separate administration rigorously and find a way to restore normalcy without compromising the integrity of Manipur, RK Anand added.

Claiming that the Assembly session to be held on August 29 is only an eyewash to save the BJP Government, RK Anand alleged that the members of the House will not be given the time to discuss the issue in Manipur properly during the sitting.

The ex-MLA went on to claim that the one-day sitting of the House will be done with just obituary reference, submission of committee reports and discussion on other business agenda.

Reminding that Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI) had taken a resolution on July 29 to pressure the Government to call a special session of the State Assembly by August 5 RK Anand said that COCOMI shouldn't be silent as the demand of the people has been ignored by the Government.

The Assembly session of August 29 will be anti-Nation, anti-State, anti-people and one of the most pointless sessions in the history of Manipur, he continued.

RK Anand then asked why Union Home Minister Amit Shah invited only COCOMI for talks and ignored all other organisations which also have been working in the overall interest of Manipur since the violence broke out on May 3 .

Claiming that the Union Home Minister asking COCOMI to take up the peace initiative is akin to blaming the Meiteis for the unrest in the State, the MLA reasoned that the responsibility to bring peace in Manipur lies with the Centre and the Union Home Minister.

CM N Biren Singh had admitted that there were lapses on the part of the intelligence which led to the large-scale violence in Manipur, RK Anand reminded and asked why the Centre is then not taking up any action against the Chief Minister who also holds the Home portfolio.

Apart from all these, the Centre and the State Government are also not taking up any action against Kuki militants under SoO pact and drug mafia from Myanmar who orchestrated the violence in Manipur, the ex-MLA said.
