Ukhrul, Kamjong ramp up election process

With the general elections to the 18th Lok Sabha fast approaching, the additional chief electoral officer of Outer Manipur parliamentary assembly constituency N Praveen Singh recently made a visit to Ukhrul.
Accompanied by joint secretary of the election department K Bono, N Praveen convened a meeting at the DC's conference hall in Ukhrul on Saturday with both DCs/DEOs Ukhrul and Kamjong to assess the readiness for the upcoming elections in two assembly segments in Ukhrul and one in Kamjong.
The meeting was attended by all the nodal officers of both the districts, who presented PPT on the allotted works including manpower, training, computerisation, material management, SVEEP, law & order, EVM, MCC, expenditure, ballot & ETPBS, media, communication plan, electoral rolls, complaint redressal & voter helpline among others.
Nodal officer for transport for Ukhrul district reported that the required vehicles both heavy and light are 414 out of which 353 have been requisitioned.
The remaining 61 would be ready soon.
In reference to law & order, it is reported that 17 polling stations have been identified as critical, 48 as vulnerable and 80 are normal for the two segments in Ukhrul district which has 145 polling stations altogether.
The total security personnel to be deployed are 13 companies from central forces (10 BSF Coy & 3 CISF Coy) and 547 police & 357 VDF/HG from the state.
The police department of the district has so far been able to seize 761 litres of IMFL (whiskey/rum/beer) worth Rs 3.51 lakh and 1675 litres of DIC (local) worth Rs 3.36 lakh and 100 kg of yeast worth Rs 6000 .
Vehicular fines under MV Act is Rs 4000 and cash seizure in connection with FIR case is Rs 13,11,130 .
The police have been able to seize three arms, 204 ammunition/ cartridges and one explosive so far.
On the other hand, Kam jong has 14 women and one model polling stations out of the total 78 polling stations.
The district will deploy 312 polling personnel and utilise 261 vehicles both heavy and light.
The two districts will go to the polls on April 26 .
