Vendor dies, 10 hurt as car hits van

In a freak accident, one female vendor was killed and 10 others including a 13-year old were injured on Tuesday night after a car rammed at a vehicle carrying the vendor and several others who were preparing for the protest called by vendors of Khwairamband market and other markets of the valley on Wednesday.
The incident occurred around 8pm Tuesday at Wangjing Keithel under Thoubal PS.
The vendors, in preparation of Wednesday's protest, had been delivering necessary items to localities.
After the delivery, they were travelling in an EECO Van (MN01AS1338) to deliver some items at Thoubal and also return home, when a Maruti Suzuki xx4 (MN05 A5479) rammed at the Van.
The injured people were immediately taken to District Hospital Thoubal for emergency first aid before being referred to RIMS Hospital.
As per a report, three of the people travelling in the car were injured, while the car driver is still in an unconscious state at RIMS Hospital.
As such, his particulars are yet to be ascertained.
Meanwhile, the deceased vendor has been identified as Ningombam Ronibala alias Ichan (41) of Singjamei Waikhom Leikai.
The other injured vendors included Loubuktongbam Inaobi (46) of Govindagram, Tongbram Kiranbala (42) of Keisham-thong, Kiran Devi (46) of Nagamapal, Laishram Santi Devi of Wangjing, Th Kiranbala (45) of Bamon Kampu and her 13-years old daughter Prithibisembi.
Santi of Wangjing is receiving treatment at District Hospital Thoubal.
The Eeco Van driver Bobin Sharma (44) s/o (L) Momon of Govindagram Makha Leikai also sustained injuries and had been admitted to the hospital.
Of the injured, three are said to be in serious condition.
Thoubal Police has registered a case in this regard.
