Imphal, July 19 2023:
Former MLA of Thongju Assembly Constituency Bijoy Koijam has asserted that peace will be restored in Manipur only when NRC is enforced and illegal Kuki immigrants are flushed out from the State.
The former MLA made the statement during a press conference held at his residence in Palace Compound, Imphal today.
Speaking to media persons, Bijoy Koijam stated that the Indian Government must take up stringent action since the collusion of armed Kuki militants from outside the State in this conflict has been made public.
Despite claims of some semblance of peace returning to the State made by the administration, the two National Highways are not yet fully operational, Bijoy Koijam maintained.
Further, he questioned why the 60,000 or so central forces deployed in Manipur have failed to contain the violence in the State, while adding that instances of gun attacks and torching of houses still continue unabated.
As the State Government has failed to perform their duty, the womenfolk of Manipur have taken it upon themselves to safeguard the State and their communities and people should not misinterpret their actions, he added.
Lastly, he appealed to the State Government to enforce NRC in Manipur to save the indigenous population.
