Last rites of Nganleiba, Chingkheinganba performed

The last rites of Sagol sem Nganleiba Meitei (31), son of S Ibochou Meitei, and Ireng bam Chingkheinganba Meitei (28), son of I Dhana, both from Sekmaijin Khunou under Hi-yanglam assembly constituency were performed on Wednesday by replacing their bodies with wood from 'Pang-gong' (Flame of the forest) tree as their corpses could not be retrieved.
Both reportedly went to Leikinthabi village as village volunteers on July 4 but were captured by Kuki militants, tortured and killed.
Their last rites conducted at Rural Youth Development Organisation (RYDO), Sekmaijin Khunou campus by Joint Action Committee and family members was attended by people from various parts of the state.
Speaking on the sidelines, JAC convener Yumnam Roshi-ni Singh explained that as the government has not been able to retrieve the bodies it was decided to perform their last rites as per the Meetei tradition by using woods of Pang-gong as symbolic replacement.
Meanwhile, Committee for Peace and Social Harmony, Kakching led by its president Yengkhom Bheigyachandra handed over monetary aid to family members of Nganleiba and Chingkheinganba on Wednesday.
