Tense stand off takes violent turn Kakching DC, SP tender apology

A tense stand off ensued this evening between Kakching police personnel and Kakching public at around 4 .
The incident took place near a bridge at Kakching Super Market when members of Langsai Thouna, a group based in Kakching, who were returning from Tronglaobi after attending a public meeting, were denied passage to their respective homes by police personnel at the bridge.
Crowd gathered in no time and a scuffle ensued resulting in injuries on both sides.
Some police vehicles were damaged.
Later, DC and SP of Kakching district tendered an apology to the incensed public.
According to a witness, the returning members of Langsai Thouna urged the police to ensure passage to their respective home through Kakching Keithel but the police personnel denied the passage through Kakching Keithel.
The police personnel remained adamant despite the intervention of womenfolk of the nearby area and their request to let the members through.
Things turned ugly as the commotion continued and police tried to disperse the crowd with tear gas shells, the witness said.
The crowd grew more in no time following the incident and the police personnel were driven back till Kakching police station.
The public destroyed one police booth before burning it in front of the police station gate, the witness added.
Later, DC Kakching Somorjit Salam, SP Kakching Th Vikramjit and Additional SP A Romendro turned up and pacified the angry mob gathered around the police station.
They also apologised for the incident and assured the public to avoid such incidents in the future.
