Stall 59 at the Grab-man Bharat Mahotsav 2025 became a platform for the inspiring story of Mangal Leima Self-Help Group (SHG), a remarkable women-led initiative from Khangabok village.
Founded in 2014 by Laishram Sharmila Devi, the SHG began with a small group of women, but today, it has expanded its reach, empowering over 4,000 women artisans in the region.
With financial backing and skill development support from NABARD, Mangal Leima SHG has emerged as a model of self-reliance and creativity.
The group specialises in crafting a wide range of handcrafted products, including bags, gift baskets, boxes, cases, and home decor items.
These products are made from Kouna, a locally sourced swamp reed native to Thoubal district, which adds a unique, eco-friendly element to their offerings.
The SHG is organised into 14 smaller women-led units, where members earn an average monthly income of Rs 12,000.This initiative highlights the transformative potential of sustainable entrepreneurship and the positive impact of community-driven efforts on women's empowerment.
At the Grahman Bharat Mahotsav, Mangal Leima SHG stands as a testimony to the power of grassroots innovation, providing a valuable model for rural economic growth and the uplift of women.
