Village chiefs, CSOs resolve to fight aggression

Stating that the Kukis are war loving community despite being hill people, Wangkheirak village chief BS Rynson has urged the state government to take up necessary measures to bring an end to the communal violence between the Kukis and the Meiteis.
BS Rynson was speaking during a meeting conducted by KOCHTAL at Chajing Khu-nou community hall which was attended by leaders of CSOs of Pangantabi, Tang-jeng Khunou, Korshantabi, Chajing Khunou, Wapokpi and Sugnu under Sugnu assembly constituency along with the village chiefs of various other communities including Anal, Tangkhul, Lamkang and Kom.
Rynson stated that since the Kukis are war loving community, they have been in war with the Nagas for three years and again with the Paites in Churachandpur.
Now they are again at war with the Meitei community, he said.
In his address, Nungkangc hing village chief Ringsen Lamkang said that the neighbouring Meitei villagers are maintaining vigil day and night to prevent attack by Kuki militants and contended that the Kukis very different from the Nagas though both are hill dwellers.
According to Lamjing ba Lup general secretary A Chanthoisana, after a peace committee was formed.in Sugnu area and people of different communities had been living peacefully, Kuki militants started attacking the Meitei villagers on May 27 with sophisticated weapons and also burnt down houses and properties.
In retaliation, the Meiteis also burnt their houses, he added.
During the meeting, the village chiefs and CSO leaders also agreed that as the present crisis is not between Nagas and Meiteis, people of the neighbouring villages will continue to live in peace and fight together if the Kukis try to create mistrust between the Meiteis and Nagas.
The meeting held with Western Valley Chief Association chairman Kh Rocky ngam Anal and Pangantabi Gram Panchayet pradhan Ningthoujam Indibala Devi as chief guest and president respectively was also attended by Shangreipung village chief S Anthony, Tonsen Tampak chief Serto Koko Kom, Tonsen Khullen chief K Rokhen Kom, Nong-kangching chief Ringsen, Be-rukhudam chief PS Shelling Anal, Wangkheirak chief BS Rynson, Mahou Tera chief Asem, Kha Maikei Kanba Lup secretary Kh Ratan, Lam-jingba Lup general secretary Aheibam Chanthoisana, KOCHTAL president H Debel Singh and secretary Seram Santa Singh.
