Imphal, June 16 2023:
The Keishamthong Kendra Development Committee organised a sit-in protest on Friday at Leimajam Leikai Community Hall amplifying the voices of the people in regard to the current crisis in the State.
Speaking on the sideline of the protest, Thangjam ongbi Purneshori, spokesperson of Keishamthong Women Development Committee, put forth demands to the Centre and the State Government to drive away Kuki militants and illegal immigrants from the State to restore peace and harmony.
Despite promises made to the people, the Centre has ignored the crisis and failed to bring an end to the turmoil, she said.
Purneshori further urged the MLAs and Ministers not to resign from their posts and appealed against any plan to impose President's Rule.
Anguished by the Central Security Forces' complete incompetency in protecting the Meitei community from Kuki militants, she alleged that the Central forces, at times, are complicit in perpetrating violence against the people.
Kuki militants' attacks on villages and civilians have killed many.
People had to take up arms to protect themselves and defend the State's integrity, she said, expressing sympathy for the victims and sharing the grief of the families who have lost their loved ones.
Peace can be achieved when Kuki militants and Chin Kuki immigrants who crossed the border illegally are driven away, she said.
During the protest, people held various placards that read Unite not divide, we condemn Kuki terrorist action, stop making another golden triangle, we want peace and harmony, stop narco-terrorism, abrogate SoO, integrity of Manipur is non-negotiable, take action against foreign militants, protect National security of India, bring back peace and harmony etc.
