MLA Lokeshwar demands SPO/SVDF

Raising concern over the frequent attacks by Kuki militants on Meetei villages in the foothills, Khundrakpam MLA Th Lokeshwar has submitted memorandum to Governor Anusuiya Uikey and chief minister N Biren with the demand to appoint 10 to 20 Special Police Officers (SPOs) or Special Village Defence Force (SVDF) in every villages.
In his memorandum, the MLA mentioned that defending villages with licensed guns is an uphill task against the Kuki militants, who are armed with AK series assault rifles, M 16 rifles and other types of automatic rifles.
Central paramilitary forces cannot monitor the vulnerable areas round the clock, he said while urging the government to appoint SPOs/ SVDFs and deploy them to defend the villages by issuing 303 rifles, MK 4 rifles and SLRs, and also by providing basic arm training.
The MLA also mentioned names of 23 villages, which have been burned by Kuki militants, in his memorandum.
