Appeals made to restore peace

Senior Citizens Club has appealed to the leaders to deescalate tension gripping the state so as to restore peace and normalcy.
In a release, the Club appealed to all concerned to strive for restoring peace and live harmoniously like before.
Several lives have been lost and properties destroyed in the communal conflict between two communities which was ignited by some vested interest group, it said arid appealed to all irrespective, of communities to work together to restore peace in the state.
While extending condolences to victims of the com munal riot, the club appealed to stop spreading rumours.
Lakhipur-based Meetei Pukkei Lup and Athouba Ningshing Lup also appealed to the Central and state governments to control the violence and restore peace in Manipur at the earliest.
Addressing a press meet at Manipur Press Club here on Friday, Pukkei Lup president Yumnam Nodiachand expressed hope that the government will take up necessary steps to restore peace and normalcy in the state.
He also called upon the people of all communities to opt for the path of reconciliation in order to restore normalcy.
As in Manipur, Meeteis in Assam want the best for the state and they came to Imphal to extend assistance to the displaced people with contributions made by the people of Lakhipur and Cachar.
They have provided relief assistance to relief centres located in different arts of the valley districts, he said while informing that they will report about the present situation in the state to Manipuris in Assam after they return home.
