Imphal, June 16 2023:
Since grievances of the people affected by the ongoing violence in the state remain unheard by the ones concerned, Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI) has announced that human chains will be formed in areas inhabited by the Meitei across the globe on Saturday night to make people aware that what Manipur is facing right now is narco-terrorism.
Addressing a press meet at COCOMI's office in Uripok here on Friday, coordinator Jeetendra Ningomba said that the state has been in turmoil for over 44 days, with the violence being perpetrated by narco-terrorists and illegal immigrants.
Although Union home minister Amif Shah was urged to take action against the perpetrations, the central government is yet to take up any action.
This has deeply hurt sentiments of the people and as such, human chain protest will be carried out on Saturday evening to inform people all over the world of the prevailing crisis in Manipur, he said.
Informing that the protest will be carried out from 7pm to 8pm for which Meitei people residing in USA, Russia, Singapore, South Korea, Japan, Bangladesh, Malaysia, UK, Germany and Italy have already been communicated with; Jeetendra said that Meitei people residing in other states have also been contacted in this regard.
He then appealed to all clubs, organisations, associations and Meira Paibi groups of the state to form human chain and raised slogans to inform the world of the narco-terrorism being faced by the people of Manipur.
COCOMI media co-ordinator Somorendro Thokchom said that as the violence had been pre-planned by narco-terrorists, they have been painting a communal angle to the same of the majority Meetei community trying to subjugate the minority Kuki community.
However, time has come to stop the spread of this false propaganda and reveal the war being carried out on civilians by narco-terrorists to the people of the world, he added.
The human chain protest will be carried out all communities of the state, he stated, while denouncing the government of India of continuing to spectate on the violence instead of upholding its responsibility to protects its citizens.
Somorendro continued that there is a need to implement NRC to prevent the influx of illegal immigrants and as such, appealed to Meiteis settled abroad and in other states to raise their voice for implementation of the same.
Implementation of NRC will benefit both the hill and valley and further help in identifying the real citizens of India, he maintained.
